Finding fun scavenger hunt ideas is something I have never worried about before this last crazy year of 2020…
In 2020 when we went home for remote teaching, I needed to add some fun to my lessons so that my students liked being in front of a screen learning English.
I did it then, I’m trying to do it now.
Not everything works well. That’s a fact 🙁
And there are activities which work with some classes and don’t seem to perform so well in others…
We have to accept it and learn from that. Move on and create new things so that every student has the same chances of learning!
Once we realize that we usually plan more motivating lessons.
Scavenger Hunt Ideas
Scavenger hunt ideas can easily be part of these more motivating lessons and they are especially fun to end online lessons.
The kids really enjoy them.
There are several ways to run a scavenger hunt. Some can be pretty complicated but I tend to use what works well with my students:
- Firstly, beforehand, choose one topic per sheet.
- Then think of 10 items for students to grab.
- Next, explain the idea of a scavenger hunt.
- Lastly, tell them they must come back to the screen at a specific time (about 3 to 5 minutes). Let them go.
- After they return, check the items they’ve found and spend about 5 minutes to show on-screen what they’ve picked.
So you can have vague lists, specific list items, lists by topics, by ages and so on…
There are hundreds of items you could put on a list. Considering that I’ve created an editable version of my template with the app TEACHER MADE. I advise you to register (it’s free) and edit my or your worksheets! It’s a great tool for teachers who are working remotely.
There’s no problem if they don’t find everything which is asked!
The point is having fun at the end of the lesson, thinking about the words while coming back to take a peek at the screen and showing the things to their peers! They love it!
