Who wouldn’t like their students to learn more new English words by themselves?
I believe every teacher gives her or his students easy tips to learn English while they are at home in their relaxed environment!
Besides, learning at home saves students time because it is easy for them to access.
It’s all about the belief of making the learners’ vocabulary expand as well as improving communication skills, which is so important in EFL & ESL.

Meanwhile, here are 20 TIPS you can give your students to learn New English Words:
- watch TV – keep up with the latest news!
- watch original films or series with English subtitles – check out my post Quotes To Learn Exciting New English With Series (such as SUITS)
- subscribe to Youtube channels and watch videos about something you enjoy (your hobby, your fave sport, etc)
- subscribe to podcasts in English and download some to listen to whenever possible
- listen to songs with the lyrics nearby
- listen to the radio – listen to real English on the radio!
- read online news, online books/short stories or blogs in English
- read short stories or comics in English – read everything you can get in English
- find fun ways to learn new words – take note of new vocabulary
- try to learn English idioms and idiomatic expressions – they are funny and useful
- keep a diary in English
- play video (online) games in English
- make English-speaking friends
- interact, engage and communicate in the language as much as possible: look for social media groups, WhatsApp groups…
- ask questions
- study grammar and vocabulary online (there are thousands of online exercises with answers)
- attend online English classes
- use all the tools and study resources available at your hands: apps, translators, social media groups…
- be enthusiastic, eager and motivated to learn new things
- never give up!

Bearing in mind number “9. find fun ways to learn new words – take note of new vocabulary”, I’ll leave you an idea of a challenge too.
Introducing the students’ to challenging words through different activities such as WORDS OF THE WEEK or DAY (scroll down until you find the related resources) can help them boost their confidence as well.
Words have a huge power! Learning new words should be all about getting learners eager to start using them while having fun in the process. I really believe it’s all about loving language and having fun.
