Using real photography and images from real life has never been so easier as now and both learners and teachers still undervalue their importance in the learning process of English vocabulary.

But Why?

Firstly, because making use of images such as photos is now more accessible because of a bunch of resources such as Pinterest and Google Images.

It is a process which is part of the learners’ life and therefore you should use it to learn new words more regularly.

Of all the activities you can carry out with real photos or images, the easiest and the one with probably the most results is asking questions around what you can actually see.

What Can You Ask?

Almost anything can be asked.

Basically anything can be answered and thus learnt.

First, choose a picture. A nice one.

Then, think about answering these questions. Asking, if you are a teacher.

Finally, adapt. Rearrange. Reorder. Group. To your needs, to what you really want to learn or teach. Ask what’s easier first. Use different words for the same question.

For each question you may add “What? or “Why?”.

Challenge feelings. They will help.

For instance, “What do you think about this picture?” or “Why do you think that?”

Now choose a photograph and start asking… Here are some examples I really love!
